This is an interesting but ultimately unsuccessful effort to get behind the scenes of Halliburton and the war on terrorism, as well as US politics, and somehow marry an old-fashioned submarine thriller to it all.I actually read approximately 65% of the book (gotta love Kindle!) and then switched to hearing the entire book on audio for a recent long road trip.
There is a lot of potential here for this author and this book, but it badly needed editing -- too many characters (how many henchmen does Carson need?), too many similar battle set-pieces, and too many simultaneous plot lines made this a frustrating book in the end.
That said, I still enjoyed it, huge plot holes and all -- I just think a much better book lies somewhere between these pages.

This was a real thriller that you had to keep reading to see what happened. although I would have liked a little more final information at the end.
This was a very strange submarine story I have read a lot of Patrick Robinson books such as the HMS Unseen etc. he sure has changed the basics of the story. Good reading material.
The story of wealth and politics whoring for each other was interesting. The level of descriptive slaughter and violence added 300 UN-necessary pages to this book.

The pace at times was tedious and jumped around quite a bit but Vaughn is a hero/patriot that displays the cost of finishing what you were morally tasked to do despite the pain, mental and physical endured.
This book, though a work of pure fiction, makes a person think of the possibilities and implications of private contractors and the "free reign" they have to get a project done by any means necessary. Not only that but happens when one grossly oversteps their bounds in the pursuit of money and power. Was a little slow paced for an action/adventure, but when it got going it was a hard book to put down.
I actually stoped reading it was so bad. This book was over the top rediculous, the writing the worst Ive read, to the point there was just no way to understand what he was trying to get accross. Terrible Dictum that was totaly false in its representationIve been with the millitary ilk all my life and found the terminology a bunch of BS Hollywood
This is a new author for me and so far I like the story line and the writing style. I would have given it 4 stars if the 'f' word were not used to liberally and totaly uneccessary. I know people use that word and others like it but when it is used 18 times on one page it tends to break my self filtering and just makes me want to throw the book away. But it is a good read otherwise so I will finish this book.
